PIVOT.ZIP Yes 126346 12/18/1993
Pivot! (Trius, Inc.; $20) allows you to
print As-Easy-As worksheets in either
portrait or landscape orientation and in the
font of your choice on Epson compatible
printers. Unlike other sideways printing
programs in the PSL, Pivot does not require
you to save your file in ASCII; it will
print the WKS file. Since As-Easy-As is
largely compatible with Lotus 1-2-3, it will
also print some WKS files from 1-2-3 and
other compatible programs. The font design
program makes it a snap to design your own
fonts.
PSHEET.ZIP Yes 171795 12/28/1993
Power Sheets (Baker, Al; $20) is a powerful
3D, programmable spreadsheet program that
was a previous PC Magazine Editor's Choice.
It's numerous features include a large
3-dimensional structure (255 rows by 255
columns by 255 pages) with the ability to
rotate the cube to view slices of data in
different ways; true programmability with a
real programming language that can exist
either as ASCII files or in cells; true date
and time math; and many built-in functions.
PS is the only spreadsheet where the bounds
of a range can be computed based on the
values of other cells (eg: sum the range
beginning at month `x' and ending at month
`y' where `x' and `y' are computed). Where
other spreadsheets operate on ranges, PS
operates on lists. A list is any combination
of ranges, cell references, or formulas.
This implies that all functions are fully
recursive and can be nested to any depth. PS
also reads and writes ASCII files,
non-delimited, or delimited with any choice
of delimiters. PS is a serious business
tool. Other spreadsheet programs in the
library are easier to learn to use for quick
and dirty projects, but if you need real
power and flexibility and don't demand Lotus
compatibility, try Power Sheets.
REBEL.EXE No 194305 3/19/1993
Rebel 3.0 (Smith, Brad L.; $0) is a
spreadsheet program with 128 columns and
1024 rows. Features include indirect cell
addressing, programmable range operations,
variable labels, array assignments, and

selections, rather than the usual 1-2-3 menu
style, and Rebel's approach is quite easy to
learn and adjust to.
SUREFIRE.ZIP Yes 633597 12/16/1993
Surefire 2.0 (Piaf, Inc. ASP; $33-$75) is an
integrated forms manager, database manager,
and spreadsheet program and more. Most forms
management programs, as well as some general
database programs, let you type anywhere you
want on the screen, insert data-entry boxes,
and even do simple calculations. Surefire
lifts this basic concept to new heights. For
example, while you could conceivably create
a spreadsheet type form with either a
database program or a forms manager by
arranging input fields into a grid
structure, Surefire makes it easy to do and
in addition, includes over 70 spreadsheet
type functions for use in cell formulas.
Surefire also goes far beyond any other
forms manager or database manager we have
seen in the ability to design screens. You
can easily create applications as diverse as
organization charts, lease management, cash
flow and budget analysis, a contact
database, and travel reports. That is, it
would be easy to create these things if they
weren't already included in this package.
Surefire lets you link documents and
databases together; merge data into
documents automatically; create mailing
labels; define buttons to do specific
actions (eg: print a label) or calculations;
design your own context-sensitive help
screens and run other applications. Other
features include a pop-up calculator,
import/export capabilities, automatic page
numbering, and powerful search capabilities,
a demo/tutorial and more. Requires DOS 3.0
and 512K.
THINKER.ZIP Yes 135149 12/19/1993
The Thinker (Elliott, Alan C.; $25) is a
spreadsheet program similar in command
structure to 1-2-3, but limited to 26
columns and 125 rows. It allows you to enter
numbers and text on the screen, and define
mathematical relationships between the
numbers. Once these relationships are
defined, you may change some numbers, and
the program will automatically recalculate
the related numbers. It can be used for
financial modeling, budget calculations,
scientific calculations, and more.
TURBOCAL.ZIP Yes 130103 12/19/1993
TurboCalc (P & M Software Co.; $40) is a
spreadsheet program with a maximum size of
8,192 rows and 256 columns. A text editor is
integrated into the system. TC supports many
math and financial functions. Other features
include bar graphs, text import, worksheet
merge, support for the 8087 math
coprocessor, fixed column import, auto-start
capability, and the ability to save a graph
to a disk file for later editing or
printing. Warning: TurboCalc creates a
hidden file in the root directory of your
hard disk that defies all normal attempts to
remove it. In addition, it adds .03 seconds
to the startup delay screen each time it is
run until you register.
